We have been hiring talented men and woman for almost 20 years. We've gone from a few hundred followers to well over 10,000.   My message gets out there and the best advice I can give a hiring manager is, "Hire people who are smarter than you. Kirk had Spock. Janeway had Tuvok. Picard had Data. "

Starfleet captains are highly intelligent, highly trained specialists, but every single one has a close and trusted officer on board they know is even smarter and more capable; regardless of gender, generation, nationality, ethnicity, LGBT+, or disabilities. When a captain runs into a situation that's beyond his or her mental abilities, somebody with the capacity to figure it out is right there on the bridge.

It's tough on the ego to not be the smartest person in the room, but great for business. Hire people because they're smarter and more capable than you are, hire people for potential and diversity, and hire people who will impact your company as well as society at large. It will give you a huge advantage over leaders whose egos can't take the hit.
